Prince Edward County is an island-shaped peninsula on Lake Ontario's north shore, about halfway between Toronto and Montreal. Its headline is Sandbanks Provincial Park, with the world's largest bay-mouth barrier dune formation. The park is extremely popular and often reaches capacity on summer mornings, so reserve a day-use pass with Ontario Parks or arrive early. The County lies within the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples.
- Day 1 · SandbanksSpend the morning at Sandbanks: Outlet Beach for long, shallow swimming, or Dunes Beach on West Lake, where you can climb the dunes themselves. Walk the Cedar Sands or Woodlands trails to see how the forest is slowly stabilizing the sand. In the late afternoon head to Wellington or Bloomfield for dinner among the County's farm-to-table restaurants.
- Day 2 · Picton, the ferry and Lake on the MountainBrowse Picton's main street, then drive east to Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park, where a small lake sits high above the Bay of Quinte with no obvious source. Continue to the Glenora ferry, a short free crossing run by the province, and loop back through the County's wineries and cideries. Extend the trip eastward to Kingston and the Thousand Islands if you have another day.
